I have many things to be thankful for, but getting turns on Thanksgiving Day was near the top of the list this year. It's only the second time ever getting some in October for me. The weather changed very abruptly here in the last couple of weeks, going from 30+C to cold and snowy. It won't last, but it's a nice early season present. With 30cm being reported by the weather station, the Cameron Lake gate open til Nov. 1st, and some good beta on where to find some cross loaded gullies, Tyler and I headed out at 7am. We were extra thankful that the cross country ski crowd is even more hardcore than we are - someone had broken trail all the way into Wall Lake, making the mostly flat 6km slog a bit easier.
From Wall Lake, we climbed up into Bennett Pass. I'd tried last winter, but got turned back by low visibility. This year we had blue bird skies and brisk temperatures. The wind had worked it's magic, snow depth varied from 30 to 60 cm on the fat side to zero on the skinny sides of the gullies. Plenty of depth to have some fun. We naturally donated some ptex to the odd rock, but the sacrifice was well worth it.
2,760 feet up on October 12? Thanks!
