Found myself in Waterton Park on Canada Day. Made the 1/2 day hike up to Bertha Lake. Was surprised to find some snow up there still right at the lake shore. Had to settle for a snowball fight as I didn't bring a board - probably would have been limited to about 5 or 6 turns, but you have to take what you can get when it comes to riding in the summer. There's supposed to be some great touring here in the winter too - although I'll admit it wasn't obvious where that would be?

Finally caught up with Adam and Dave, so I can now officially say I'm going heli again next winter as I've now actually paid for it! We have a private one day deal at RK. They both spent a day there this past winter in the non-private setup and had a great time. Looking forward to a chopper full of people who can ride.

They also invited me out for a day of wakeboarding. It was my first time on a "real" boat - never been on anything other than an aluminum fishing one - needless to say, it was also my first go at water sports of any type. Got up my first try, lasted 10 or 15 seconds then crashed. Managed to get up after a few more tries and was up for long enough to play on the wake and make a few carves. Between ripping my hand up (no gloves), the cold weather, and the bruised ribs (Adam), we called it a day. I'm up for another go at it on a warmer day.

I've been sticking with the fitness regime thanks to the weekly personal training sessions. Keeps me motivated and accountable. I'm down about 10 lbs (low 190's now) and my latest body fat reading was 13.6%. I'm looking to get that down to 10 or 11% and the weight should be in the 185ish range. I started running just before the Mica trip, have now set the goal of running a 1/2 marathon this fall - not because I want to be a hardcore runner, but rather I think it will yield tremendous benefits for riding and touring. The Greg Hill (10,000 foot day) goal is the one that motivates me the most - it's not something that you can just buy, you gotta earn it. Slogging up hill on skins is a cardio workout and doing 10,000 is a long haul - Greg bangs it out in 5 hours or so, I expect a full 8 to 10 hours my first 10K day. Anyhow, all this training for the 1/2 marathon should be money in the cardio bank for the winter.

It's currently looking like I should have a lot more time to ride and tour this winter too, but we'll see how the early R pans out....
